I live in Rome and since many years it is not unusual see seagulls even in the urban area, far enough from the sea or the river, flying in circles over the roofs.
I guess they're adapting and learning how take benefit from humans' activities.
just as the seagull in the picture did yesterday.
someone left some food for stray cats hidden behind the scooter's wheel.
somehow the seagull saw the bowl with the food from the sky and landed; carefully he get close to the scooter and took the bowl in his beak moving it in the middle of sidewalk (to have a better view of humans passing by, I think) then started eating.
humans and other animals, sooner or later, sharing the same habitat, inevitably interact with each other...
